Episode 21: The Citizen Confidence Index and People-Inclusive Design
Jon Alexander, Co-Founder of the New Citizenship Project stops by The Future of Teamwork to speak with host Dane Groeneveld about all the ways stories drive our pursuits, and how we can all benefit from reminding ourselves about stories that inspire us to participate in a collective mindset. The New Citizenship Project aims to make the switch to seeing people not as consumers, but as citizens, and how reframing that perspective allows individuals to more fully participate and have their ideas valued. Throughout the conversation Dane and Jon deep dive into what it means to be part of a collective, people-inclusive design, and examples of people’s voices and ideas harmonizing to benefit the greater community.

Jon is author of CITIZENS: Why the Key to Fixing Everything is All of Us. Jon was inspired to write the book by asking questions like:
1) What if we believe that all of us are smarter than any of us?
2) Do we do our best when we tap into the ideas, energy, and resources of everyone?
According to Jon, we were previously living in the Consumer Story and are moving toward the Citizen Story, where “we see ourselves as the creative, capable, caring creatures we are.”
Jon is co-founder of the New Citizenship Project, a strategy and innovation consultancy that aims to shift the dominant story of the individual in society from Consumer to Citizen. NCP’s client list includes The Guardian, the European Central Bank, and the European Journalism Centre. They have partnered with the BBC, National Trust, the Food Ethics Council and many more. NCP is a certified B-corporation.
