Episode 174: Connection, Loneliness, and the Generation Inheriting Our Workplaces with Dr. Anne Gutshall
In this episode of The Future of Teamwork Podcast, Dane interviews psychologist and therapist Dr. Anne Gutshall about connection – how we build it, how we lose it, and why it matters now more than ever. Anne brings decades of experience working with children, families, students, and adults to explore what’s really going on with Gen Z, rising loneliness, social anxiety, and the growing challenges parents and employers face today.
From the loss of multi-generational gatherings and unstructured social spaces to hyper-scheduled calendars, structured sports, and remote work, Dane and Anne unpack how efficiency and safety have replaced the messy, awkward moments where real connection is learned. They dive into why social skills can’t be developed on screens, how early experiences shape confidence and belonging later in life, and why loneliness and social anxiety are showing up so strongly in younger generations.
The conversation also challenges parents and leaders to reflect on what they’re modeling – at home and at work – and how organizations can be more intentional about creating spaces where people connect as humans, not just coworkers.
If you care about building stronger teams, supporting younger generations, and understanding the human brain behind behavior at work, this is a conversation you won’t want to miss.
