Episode 117: Building a Thriving Team Through Workplace Culture with Becks Port, PhD

In this episode of The Future of Teamwork, Dane hosts Becks Port, PhD, Chief People Officer of 10x Genomics. Becks shares her journey from studying psychology in the UK to holding leadership roles at Netflix and her current organization, and she shares the many ways to create an employee-centric workplace through building culture. She explains the importance of designing cultures where employees can thrive by aligning organizational values with employee values and needs. She also explains how, when companies are honest about their culture and how people work there, they can attract and retain more aligned employees.

Becks talks about continuous monitoring, and how context matters in checking in with team progress (plus how to appropriately set expectations and structure in a continuous performance management approach). She then shares how AI can help coach teams to be more effective and better at their jobs. Finally, Becks forecasts how she expects to see more importance placed on employee happiness (or at least a reduction of misery) in the future to get better company outputs.

Prior to 10x Genomics, Rebecca was VP of HR at Netflix.

Rebecca’s work as a champion of women in the workplace has also been recognized across the human resources industry.
